Understanding overnight drops
Our favorite correction method for lows is: GRAPES! We received that tip from a very dear t1d woman that is diabetic for over 70 years! She has no complications and told us to avoid juice or sugar for corrections but to use fruit instead. So most of our corrections are from fruit. We treat with grapes when he is trending down, slowly at 80... grapes will bring him up but with the fiber, they will not overly spike. Often we hear about 15 carbs corrections, but that’s too much for my son, and will overcorrect him. So we we try 5-6 carbs if he's mildly low. That is 5-6 grapes. We will use other fruits as well: apple, pear, banana (careful, that is super sweat). We also correct if he's going down with a single or double arrow close to 100 and still have "insulin peak time" to go. For my son, that time is 1 hour with Fiasp, and 1.5 hours with Humalog.
